Via Delos Reyes: keeping human responsibility at the heart of AI

An educator’s perspective on using powerful technology with integrity, critical thinking, and care for the people it affects.

Before asking what artificial intelligence can do for us, Via Delos Reyes invites a more fundamental question: how should we use it?

An educator, artist, and community advocate with more than a decade of experience in teaching, language education, and learner development, Via brings this question to the opening session of LeadX Academy’s THINK BETTER WITH AI.

An educator’s foundation

Via serves as a Special Science Teacher I at Pasig City Science High School. She holds a Master of Arts in Filipinology from the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina, with professional interests spanning language education, transformative pedagogy, educational technology, research, and the responsible integration of AI into teaching and learning.

Her approach to education connects knowledge and competence with identity, critical thinking, values, and social responsibility. Learning, in this view, matters both for what a person knows and for how that person uses knowledge in the service of others.

Powerful tools require thoughtful users

As generative AI becomes part of research, communication, content creation, and everyday work, convenience can make it easy to overlook the questions behind an output. Is the information accurate? Does it reflect bias? Have we protected someone’s privacy? Can we explain and take responsibility for what we submit or share?

Via’s session, Ethical and Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence, provides a foundation for examining these concerns. It brings attention to accuracy, bias, privacy, intellectual honesty, attribution, academic integrity, misinformation, and human oversight.

For students, educators, professionals, entrepreneurs, and leaders, these questions have practical consequences. A useful AI response still needs a person to assess its reliability, understand its limitations, and decide whether it belongs in the task at hand.

Before we learn how to do more with AI, we must first learn how to use it responsibly.

Learning with a purpose

Via’s involvement in educational advocacy, outreach, and scholarship initiatives connects her classroom perspective with a wider commitment to community service and access to learning.

That perspective fits the purpose of this event: practical learning that also supports EDUKAAGAPAY’s educational advocacy for scholars.

From responsible use to better thinking

Her opening session establishes the values and accountability that guide the program. Sir Next Layderos’s succeeding session builds on that foundation with practical ways to ask stronger questions, evaluate answers, and use AI as a thinking partner.

Together, the sessions invite participants to develop both capability and discernment—so that human judgment remains present at every step.
